Sooo I stayed up for Macworld last night. Does that make me geeky? xD Well I stay up late anyways. It just so happened Macworld was on last night. At 2am.
It was hella boring though. First off - ILife 09. Yawn. Yawn. Yawn. Pages cant even add footnotes yet *eye roll* The only thing I would be interested in in the new iLife is the Garageband music instrument lessons. Then again, you can find those free on youtube easily enough.
iTunes will now also be DRM free……in the next year or so. Not only this but if you’re a previous customer of iTunes, you can pay 50c per song for the privilege to ‘upgrade’ - that is to pay extra for a DRM free, 256 kbps track. Wow. So amazingly groundbreaking right?? Right!?!!
Well its good to see the biggest digital music store is finally going DRM free….but with price increases expected on popular/well selling music - why not just get the CD instead? Its so much more WORTH IT - right now all I see iTunes as is one giant shop that screams RIP OFF. I’m still waiting for Amazon’s online music store to go international. Trust me - I’d be an avid buyer of good quality, DRM free tracks. Which are cheaper than actual CDs.
Right now in oz, a regular track costs 1.69. How much will they be when they are DRM free? A whole album on iTunes costs around 17 dollars. Thats pretty expensive when you can get CDs at the shop for 10 bucks. I mean if you want to buy obscure music, then maybe itunes would have it - but wouldnt you rather buy a CD and support the artist from their website or official store rather than buy a digital track with which the artist only gets a few cents per sale? Not only this, but the TV series on iTunes are a major rip off too. Spongebob, Scrubs etc. etc. are massively overpriced - why buy them online when you can get a boxed set with extras for LESS!?!
I think the transition to DRM free music is one that must be made…but its so obvious the music companies are using the opportunity to also get people to pay once, twice, three times for music they already ‘own’. Its just most people are dumb enough to look past this mere fact.
Onto the 17 inch MBP though. 4500 AUD? You gotta be joking(and since when was the aussie dollar worth 50 US cents!?!).
When the upgrades added on to it make it well into the 7-8k range….you know Apple is just using its hype and popularity to squeeze every last cent from fanboy’s bank accounts(or credit card accounts…same deal).
The integrated battery sounds optimistic with 8 hours of supposed battery life…(realistically only 5/6 I reckon) but is the longer lasting battery worth it being non removable? Psh. My Macbook battery died just a few days ago, TWO MONTHS outside warranty. It only lasted a year and two months then inexplicably died. Replacing it cost 199 dollars. You think that’s cheap? You’re crazy. You think that’s a normal battery life? You’re an idiot.
Bottom line is - APPLE HARDWARE IS TOTALLY FRICKIN UNRELIABLE. That’s coming from someone who owns a Macbook and an iPod. God knows how many times I’ve had to reset the PRAM on my macbook. And reset my ipod because it crashes constantly. How hassly do you think it would be to fix an integrated battery!?!! (not to mention expensive) Anywayyy….enough slagging off Apple lol. I just find the whole Apple hype hilarious because…..
Some people will just buy ANYTHING new and Apple related. No wonder they have to make everything ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY!!! People just consume, consume, consume - upgrading every few months and chucking out the older models(or negating it by other means….ahem) when Apple releases newer, supposedly “improved” versions of their models. Just read the mac related forums on the internet anywhere and you’ll find the few crazy people who buy every new Apple product, foam at the mouth when they hear ‘iPhone’ and worship Steve Jobs and his health.
Seriously though, I just don’t understand why people would pay 4500AUD for a MBP… which is basically specced up to a pc laptop half the price!! I’m not saying OSX isnt worth anything. I’m just saying…some people just aren’t wise when it comes to money. I really can’t be bothered explaining why I think you’re a fool if you bought the new 17inch MBP. But hey. It’s all your call right? If you want to forgo the mortgage payment or use up some of the Christmas bonus for an overpriced Macbook then go ahead!!!
Anyway. Back to my Macworld review. In between the dry, boring updates of the new features of iLife 09, turns out MacRumors was hacked by none other than the idiots at 4Chan.org.
I was happily posting on Whirlpool and listening to music and trying to watch The Thing(I switched off after about 20 minutes lol) and reading the Macrumors live feed of the event…when their liveblog got hacked by idiots who ‘claim to be from 4Chan:
It just started with one comment - “STEVE JOBS JUST DIED” then all of a sudden a few minutes later the floodgates were opened and the feed was overrun with the fatass parasites of 4Chan - spewing their ever present garbage and lame, 12 year old boy jokes.
Yeah. The pathetic and sad thing was, a lot of people found it funny and amusing(see Digg.com). Asides from the fact that Digg is really a cesspool overrun by loser wannabe internet ’stars’, it was really quite sarcasmic(shut up. its officially a word now) to see people encourage the hackers and laugh it all off.
“Oh they[Macrumors people] left a big security hole so what was 4chan supposed to do?”
“omgz 4chan youre my effin hero i worship you guyzzz”
No. 4chan is full of LOSERS who have nothing better to do with their life. Its not cool to post there and its not cool to hack into an informative site just ‘for the lulz’(god I hate it when people say that). And no, its not cool to make up a new ‘meme’ either. Its actually pretty fucking lame to be honest. So yeah. I wish all these internet wannabe hacker losers would just get with the times - 4chan is SO 2008. Do something productive instead of destroying other people’s work!!
Well I’m glad I got that off my chest. This blog post really wasn’t that much of a Macworld review….more like an epic rant at Apple fanatics and 4chan morons in general, but hey. That’s what you get when you stay up late to watch an Apply keynote!!!
All in all, if you missed the keynote, you really didn’t miss much.
Just for the record - I am never staying up for an Apple keynote again. If there ever is another one…
